We are thrilled to announce that we had a 100 % pass rate for our RAD Examinations this year. All eighty candidates were awarded either a Merit or Distinction. A fantastic achievement – much deserved after all your hard work – well done!

2011 International Dance Teacher’s Conference, The Royal Ballet School, Covent Garden

In August Miss Vanessa, joined by 12 of our younger pupils (ranging in age from 3 – 5), gave a master class in how to approach teaching the pre-school child at the first International Dance Teacher’s Conference held at The Royal Ballet Upper School. The children were completely unfazed by their illustrious surroundings and performed magnificently. A hugely successful Covent Garden debut – we look forward to hopefully seeing some of them back there one day!

New Uniform

The Royal Academy of Dance recently updated their regulation attire from the voile to the tulip skirt. All children in the Reception, Pre-Primary and Primary classes are now required to wear ‘The Ballet School’ pale blue capped sleeve leotard with ‘The Ballet School’ pale blue tulip skirt. Our new joiners will automatically be fitted with this uniform but those existing pupils who still have the ‘chloe’ leotard and voile skirt need only make the change when a growth spurt or one too many washes demands it! The Ballet School, Barnes

We are very excited to announce that after half-term The Ballet School will be opening a fifth branch just across the river in Barnes. Classes will initially be held on a Wednesday afternoon at St Michael and All Angels Community Centre SW13. Please contact Sarah in the office if you would like to enrol your child or for convenience sake transfer from one of our existing locations.

The Royal Ballet School Associate Program and International Summer School

Congratulations to Sascha Feinburg who has been offered a place on the Royal Ballet School’s Junior Associate Programme and also to Honor Mackie who has passed her annual assessment and is therefore able to continue as a Mid Associate. Honor was also invited to attend The Royal Ballet School’s International Summer School, which was held at White Lodge in July.

Romeo and Juliet at the O2 Arena

On Friday 17 June we will be taking a group of pupils to the London 02 Arena to watch the Royal Ballet Company in a unique production of Macmillan’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. This particular event is an exclusive young person’s performance and is part of The Royal Opera House’s school’s matinee programme. This is the first time The Royal Ballet have performed in a London arena and with an all-star cast promises to be a ballet spectacle to remember.

Behind the Scenes at The Royal Ballet Company

We have been invited to watch The Royal Ballet Company in their daily class on Wednesday 8 June. Twenty of our pupils (Grade 2 and above) will be taken to The Royal Opera House and given the opportunity to discover what goes on behind the scenes and see some of the world’s most renowned dancers at close quarters!

Pipping Kate and William to the Post

Congratulations to Honor Mackie who will next September be making the transition from Mid Associate to Senior Associate of The Royal Ballet School. She has also been offered a place on The Royal Ballet School’s International Summer School held at White Lodge in Richmond Park.

‘Cinderella’ at The Tabernacle – 7 November 2010

On Sunday 7th November 188 children appeared in The Ballet School’s production of Cinderella.

From Pumpkin to Broom, Pigeon to Fairy the entire cast performed magnificently and to great acclaim. Bravo! The performances were the fruition of an enormous amount of hard work so a very special thank you to all those who toiled away behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly and that the show was a hit.

The Ballet School has grown considerably in the last few months and as a result of this we have a new office member! As many of you will already know, Sarah joined the team in March and will be answering The Ballet School’s phone and dealing with new registrations and general enquiries.

Congratulations to Honor Mackie who has been offered a part in The Royal Ballet’s upcoming production of ‘Cinderella’. Her Royal Opera House debut will be as a page – escorting Cinderella to the ball! Honor was also accepted into the Royal Ballet School’s Junior Associate Programme and started there in September.

Ottilie Rose Obert de Thieusies showed an impeccable sense of timing and decided to abandon her due date (Christmas Day) arriving instead on the 13th December 2009. She weighed in at 7lbs, sporting a Tin Tin hairdo and thanks to a spot of jaundice a rather enviable tan! She is very much looking forward to meeting all at The Ballet School soon.

Miss Vanessa is delighted to announce that she is expecting her second child (due on Christmas Day!). Her rather cumbersome bump and imminent arrival means she will be away for the rest of this term and next but all set to resume her post at the beginning of the Summer Term 2010.

Whilst she is on maternity leave she will be handing over her classes to two exceptionally talented (and very lovely!) ex-professional dancers, Miss Catherine and Miss Isabel who have been spending the last few weeks getting acquainted with the children and trying to learn 400 + names…

The Royal Ballet Company in Class, Royal Opera House

We were invited for a second time to bring along some of our pupils to watch The Royal Ballet Company in their daily class at The Royal Opera House. Forty children were fortunate enough to be able to come and were thrilled to be able to see some of their favourite dancers up close and to get an insight into what goes on behind the scenes. Our sincerest thanks go to the head of the ROH Education Department, Rozzie Metherell, for giving the children this wonderful opportunity.

Finding Nemo – A Resounding Success

The Ballet School’s first ever production ’Finding Nemo’ took place at The Tabernacle Theatre on Saturday 12 October 2008.

The 170 cast members, ranging in age from 4 – 14, delighted the audience with their performances and the lengthy standing ovations that followed were well and truly deserved! Congratulations to you all.

A huge thank you to those who helped out behind the scenes, especially Anahi Copponex who designed and created the fabulous costumes, from surfing turtle to mounted mer-jockey!

Our next production will take place in September 2010 (by which time Miss Vanessa and Miss Caty should be fully re-cuperated!). Rehearsals will start May 2010 and all pupils from Reception age and up will be given the opportunity to take part.

Last term 14 of our Grade 2 and 3 pupils were fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to visit the Royal Opera House and watch the Royal Ballet Company in their daily class. Big thank you to Rossie from the Education Department for inviting us, the girls loved it and were completely in awe!
