About Vanessa

Vanessa Donkin trained at the Royal Ballet School, White Lodge and at the Royal Ballet Upper School for seven years before going on to dance professionally with the Royal Ballet Company and Cape Town City Ballet.

Vanessa graduated with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Professional Dancers Teachers Course in 2000 and began her teaching career at the Academy of Dance in Los Angeles, CA. She has gone on to teach at the RAD Headquarters as a faculty member of the Dance School, conduct numerous Repertoire Workshops across the country and was involved in the development and filming of the new Pre-School Dance Curriculum. She has also taught on several international RAD Summer and Easter Schools in Tokyo, South Africa, Austria, Germany, Mexico and Indonesia. Other roles for the RAD have included that of online ‘agony aunt’ for “Radacadabra” – a children’s website created for young ballet fanatics.

Vanessa completed filming the first set of live-action segments for the hugely popular TV series “Angelina Ballerina” (which she choreographed and also appears in) in 2001 and went on to be involved in the creation of subsequent episodes in 2005.

In 2002 Vanessa set up The Ballet School, Notting Hill along with her business partner, Claire Mcnicholl.

She currently lives in West London with her partner, Patrick and two little girls, Jasmine and Ottilie.
